Torn by Carian Cole

REVIEWED BY Isa Jones

"I Am Torn is Over =( "
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Totally. Is fast paced, the plot is original. The characters are so well balanced and the chemistry is off the charts!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Torn?
OMG seeing the love blossoming between Tor and Kenzi is beautiful, all those flashbacks get you right into the scene, for me maybe it was just that first kiss scene, for readers it was the culminating moment after the whole sexual build up, even though there wasn't at that time more than that kiss you could feel the emotions.

Have you listened to any of Noelle Bridges and Mason Lloyd ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No this is the first time I heard both and they were brilliant!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Oh so many, I loved the inclusion of little poems or sayings at the beginning of the chapters it makes it even more special to see how each character feels about the other. Probably the argument between Kenzi and her Dad was the most emotional one, as you didn't know how he was going to react when the truth came to light. it was gut wrenching.

Any additional comments?
I would have liked to see the characters once their relationship was made known. Even though we do get a nice Epilogue I felt there was something just missing at the very end, but perhaps I was just not ready to close the book on Tor and Kenz.

A thoroughly heartwarming story full of passion and romance. The voice actors gave perfect life to each character and I want to read more from this Author.

5 STARS.

Sweet Spot by Stella Rhys

REVIEWED BY Tina Shobe

Sweet SpotSweet Spot by Stella Rhys
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I knew as soon Lukas and Lia meet that this was going to be a great book. She dripping wet from dashing out of the bath to help her neighbour open the apartment door next to hers and ends up locking herself out. Lukas is not only very good looking he's hilarious. He makes no attempt to look away and doesn't lie about what parts of Lia he 'sees'. I love his personality. As Lia describes him "pecs the size of my face"and "every single muscle on his body is an attention whore". I absolutely love that line.

Lia has been working very hard to get her life back on track and to accomplish her dream of opening a chocolate shop. Her ex boyfriend took advantage of her and she's been celibate and boyfriend free ever since. Her attraction to Lukas has awakened her dormant libido.

Lukas is Tess's brother, who is moving into Tess's apartment while Tess is out of of the country and his apartment is being renovated.

The attraction between these two is instant. Lia fights giving in and is pretty snarky with Lukas. He doesn't give up and sometimes I think he just says and does the things he does to get under her skin.

Lia decides she needs a hook-up to ease her sexual frustration but not with Lukas. She thinks he's a player and wants no part of that and he's just as determined to be the one that takes care of all her needs. When these two finally give it it was beyond hot. I was fanning myself.

Through Lia Lukas is able to get through a time period that in the past has been extremely rough for him.

Her friend, Sara and his friends, Emmett and Julian really add to this story. I really hope we read more about them in the future.

This book had the build up of attraction, humor, sizzling hot sex and chocolate. You can't get any better than that.

Cozzi Cove: Stepping Out by Joe Cosentino

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

Cozzi Cove: Stepping Out (Cozzi Cove, #3)Cozzi Cove: Stepping Out by Joe Cosentino
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cozzi Cove is full of romance again. Stepping Out works through so many past issues for the main characters and help them move forward with their lives.

Cal is there of course along with Michael. Cal's brother George and sister Taylor are both at the Cove. I enjoy Taylor's sassy mouth and the sibling interaction is a hoot.

Connor's still working for Cal and is still a horny dog. But life is about to change for Connor. He is an entertaining character and makes me giggle with his sauciness.

Lots of new visitors to Cozzi and I don't want to give away all the fun. Stepping Out is funny and clever but also very emotional as the characters deal with their respective issues. Cosentino has a great series here. It is well written, sexy and entertaining.

Thanks for letting me visit for another week in Cozzi Cove.

Money by Jillian Dodd

Money (The Keatyn Chronicles, #10)Money by Jillian Dodd
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So you read a series and grow with the characters and you think to yourself "this is the way this is going to go" and Jillian says to herself, "You think so... jokes on you."

Jillian is constantly surprising me, and occasionally frustrating me with the development of the story. I want it all tied up and it is never all tied up, but Lord help me I can't stop reading. I am invested in these characters and their lives. We have watched them grow up and you want certain things for them but they apparently telling Jillian a different story sometimes.

New relationships have formed or old relationships have rekindled, then something happens and it all goes to crap. I want to throw my kindle and scream. Sometimes it is like the train wreck that you can't help but watch.

Shelby has been around in previous books but she really stirs some... manure in this one.
Jennifer, I just can't help but like. A free spirit with a conscience. Gotta love her.

Kitty just tries so hard to get her happily ever after and maybe it just isn't in the cards for her. I keep thinking everything will fall into place but it just isn't happening.

Riley and Dawson are around and having problems of their own. Lordy sometimes Jillian drives me to drink a glass of wine, or a bottle.

TAKE A PEEK AT THIS STORY...

Her Bodyguard by Sabrina Paige

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

Her BodyguardHer Bodyguard by Sabrina Paige
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Got this one on KU and she included the first book Prince Albert. In all honesty I like Her Bodyguard better. I am a fan of the show The Royals and Alexandra reminded me of a character from that show.

Alexandra is the spoiled princess. Misbehaving at will and sometimes just out of boredom or to get attention.

Max is ex-miliary (US) and became friends Alexandra's brother Albert in the service. When Alexandra couldn't keep a bodyguard her brother called on an old friend to help out.'

Alexandra and Max don't start out on the best of terms but things quickly heat up. Max is bossy and naughty and who doesn't love that. Alexandra is mouthy and impossible and every girl wants to be her. I mean, come on, she is a real life princess.

Fast paced with lots of drama and sexy time to keep the story moving. Really enjoyed Her Bodyguard. Plenty of humor/sass from Alexandra that made me grin. Entertaining hot read.

Prince Albert is included in this KU edition. I like Belle's character. Albie, I just never could connect with him. He is a good enough guy but something about him didn't work for me.

Max wants to talk dirty to me, bring it on. ;-)

Buy Me, Sir by Jade West

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

Buy Me, SirBuy Me, Sir by Jade West
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Buy Me, Sir, is not for the faint of heart. It is dark and dirty. You think you know how a book is going to go but I can assure you, your brain won't go where this book went. You will have to give it a read to explore the dark mind of Jade West.

Melissa "Lissa" is an odd one, there is no doubt. Her brain just works a bit different than the rest of us. She has no limits to what she will do to get what she wants. Did I like her? No. Did she intrigue me and make me want to turn another page? Yes.

The Puppet Master, Alexander, is a high powered attorney in his father's firm that pulls the strings to make his clients problems go away. They are rich entitled people who do bad things and get away with it. Alexander also has a darker side to his sexual needs. He seeks those out in an unusual way, but a way that keeps things secret.

This was a like an explosion that you knew was coming but you couldn't step away from the fire. I read a lot so to be caught off guard by a different perspective was greatly entertaining.

If you like them dark, dirty and thrilling, you need to give this one a read.

Power by Jillian Dodd

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

Power (The Keatyn Chronicles, #9)Power by Jillian Dodd
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So the Keatyn gang's saga continues in Power.

Power focuses on Keatyn as always, but Vanessa, Dawson, Riley and Ariela among appearances by others in the group.

I enjoy the format Jillian uses of alternating POV's with dates and places. It is different than a lot of books I have read and I like it.

There are some bad life decisions made by some of the characters on a whim to let off some steam, that come back to the bit them in the booty. Vanessa and Keatyn to the rescue.

Other than Keatyn and Aiden, oh and Riley when I am not mad at him, Dawson is one of my favorite characters.

Keatyn's Gracie shows up for a bit and it is great to see her as an older teen. I might have mentioned I love all the characters and love watching them mature and experience life. Maybe that is what it is about this series is watching these kids grow up and navigate life. I don't know but I have to read every book Jillian puts out. I am invested in all of them and love them all for different reasons.

THE SAGA CONTINUES...

Fame:Season One by Jillian Dodd

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

Fame: Season One (Captive Films, #1)Fame: Season One by Jillian Dodd
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fame - Hollywood Love Series, kicks off with Riley. Always loved Riley in the Keatyn Chronicles when they were in high school. I enjoy he and Keatyns dynamic.

In Fame he is all grown up and living life to the fullest. Women, wine and something. LOL

Keatyn and Aiden are still adorable even with the pressures of adult life. Keatyn has matured so much over the span of the series. She is not always on board with Riley's life decisions but backs him up because of their long standing friendship.

Ariela makes an appearance in Fame. Her life is not what she expected and she has to make some changes. Trying to reconnect with old friends doesn't really pan out like she thought.

Vanessa is the bad a** we all wish we could be. Riley's brother Dawson makes an appearance in Fame as well.

The foundation is layed in Fame for future developments relationship wise and business wise for all of the characters. It is like watching a soap opera but a million times betters.

Sex by Jillian Dodd

REVIEWED BY Becky Cox

Sex (The Keatyn Chronicles #11)Sex by Jillian Dodd
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am a Keatyn Chronicles fan. Have read them all and all of the shoot offs of this series. I love Keatyn and Aiden and all there crazy friends and the crazy stuff they get themselves into. I am a fan of the changing POVs in this series and there are so many active characters it would almost be impossible to keep straight if Jillian hadn't written it that way.

Sex pretty much covers the spectrum of situations. Weddings, babies, baby mama drama, exes stirring up trouble, insta love, second chance romance....

Riley the confirmed bachelor since Ariela left him in high school has quite the drama in his life in Sex. I kept thinking that a certain thing was going to resolve itself and it didn't. I am hopeful that it will in Love. Riley frustrated me a bit in this one as I want him to do something he didn't do.

It was fun to spend time with all the gang and see new relationships develop and read about what they have been up to since I last got to visit with them.

Jillian has such a realistic way (I know, I know these characters are a bunch of rich kids who make it rich) of presenting her stories that I can not get enough. I have been a fan since the first book. Each character has their own situations they have had to deal with to reach the point they are at now. The early books obviously focus mainly on Keatyn but many of the characters have moved to the forefront as the series progressed.

Thanks for another great read Jillian! Could you shake Riley a bit for me?

The Night Mark by Tiffany Reisz

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

The Night MarkThe Night Mark by Tiffany Reisz
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a different style of writing and book for Tiffany Reisz but I can say that TR showed talent in her creative versatility, being able to write something like this and make it compelling. THE NIGHT MARK is a mix of time-travel, historical, contemporary and women's fiction. It might be a mix of genres, but I enjoyed the story without dissecting it; I just rolled with the waves.

THE NIGHT MARK is about a women Faye, finding her identity after multiple grief experiences and a divorce. She's never let go of her first husband, Will and she sees a picture of a lighthouse keeper in the 1920s who is uncannily the image of Will. I will not go further in terms of story line but I can say that I loved the story in 1921 the most. Carrick was a man I grew to know, admire and love. The side characters of Dolly and Pat were so well written and the character development in general was excellent. The connections and emotions were conveyed in a way that I felt invested and on edge. The description in this book painted a clear picture of setting and events without feeling heavy. The story is complex, you can't look away for fear of missing some key piece of the jigsaw but that complexity fit the general concept well.

If you're expecting the heat and twisty steam of Reisz's other books, you need to know this is not written with those themes, this is so utterly different. However, I recommend this to her fans because this is the kind of book worth taking a chance on and I would love to read more of her work in this kind of style.

This is the first story I have read by Corrine Michaels. The story is about Grace trying to move on with her life. She has been dating Trent for over twenty years and she wanted more. She ended it and is trying to move on regardless of what her heart wants. She wants her future with the man she loves which has always been Trent. When Trent feels he may lose the girl, he has two choices walk away or fight for her.

The first half of book started out a bit slow but the last half was worth the wait. Grace and Trent seemed to need time to fiqure out what they both wanted. Trent I wanted to clock over the head on multiple occasions. It was fun competition and banter between Cooper and Trent. I think that was turning point in the story for me. I wanted to find out who got the girl. I loved Cooper from beginning of the story. He was a strong character and went after what he wanted. I liked that. I hope he gets his own book soon. I would like to read more about him.

Honor and Pride by Ann Lister

Honor and Pride (Guarding The Gods, #2)Honor and Pride by Ann Lister
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

You learn something new everyday especially while reading. I had no clue what hazing meant and I was shocked to read about it.
Although there was a few tense moments in this story and I was hanging on the edge of my seat with shaky hands flicking through the pages, Ann Lister dealt with the storyline with sensitivity and empathy.
I’ve completely fell in love with Nick Honor’s character AKA Fizzbo. He’s the kind of alpha male we all dream about. Strong, loving, tender when needed, but also he’s passionate and oozes sex appeal. His filthy mouth had me smiling, oh yeah, I was into Fizzbo’s dirty talking right along with Kensey. He sure knows how to get the adrenaline pumping through your body.

Kensey Pride is a little sex bomb, he’s like a fiery rocket ready to shoot literally. Fizzbo sure knows how to work him up. Kensey’s has a past like most of us, but his is a little more sordid than most. I tried not to judge him until I had the full story, but I was shocked to hear what he had been involved with. I know through school and college it’s tough to get through it without being dragged into something. So many people can be ridicule for not taking part. Being bullied is always another fear many people face. None of it is acceptable but each person going through their own thing will deal with situations not all of us will agree to. I do hope that one day hazing is a thing of the past.

Fizzbo had me laughing out loud quite a few times in the beginning of this book, he has a great sense of humor. He and Kensey do make a perfect fit. Both seriously good looking, fun guys, loving. Both deserve a chance at happiness.
This new spin off series from The Rock Gods just keeps getting better. I don’t know how this Author manages to make the sexiest stories come to life while dealing with very serious situations. I’m really looking forward to hearing Mason’s story. These guards are most definitely turning out to be the hottest guards in the Rock world.

Beach Wedding by Natasha Boyd

REVIEWED By Micky Barnard

Beach Wedding (Butler Cove, #5)Beach Wedding by Natasha Boyd
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I feel utter contentment at everything this story brought into my life but do not be fooled by that, it felt hard fought even so. BEACH WEDDING was the story I've always wanted to happen, Jack Eversea and Keri-Ann needed a conclusion, even though they got their happily ever after. What I found as I read this was richness and depth and a couple with a real story, who were experiencing some downs with the ups. The uncertainty was compelling and the events that arose had me gripped to what would happen with these two beloved characters. Nevertheless, these two had chemistry.

"It was Jack and I. Our chemistry bigger than us, our hearts and bodies communicating to each other in a language that our brains and our tongues couldn't decipher in the real world."

Even though Jack and Keri-Ann have had two books dedicated to them, I felt huge growth in Jack's character particularly. The cast of Jazz and Joey brought that added more to this read, with friendship and family as a core element.

BEACH WEDDING made me ride the emotions trains, good and bad and I'm still processing the experience. There is a bittersweet enjoyment that comes from reading the culmination to these characters and if Natasha Boyd ever has the compulsion to write more for these two, I'll be there.

Where We Left Off (Middle of Somewhere Book 3) by Roan Parrish

REVIEWED BY Isa Jones

Where We Left Off (Middle of Somewhere, #3)Where We Left Off by Roan Parrish
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
NARRATED By:  Spencer Goss

You know that moment when you go see a play or an opera or just any kind of show where by applause you want to tell the actor/singer/musician how amazing his/her performance was? Well I have been on a permanent state of standing ovation since finishing this audio.
I want to scream and shout to Roan and to Spencer BRAVO!!! BRAVO!! and MORE PLEASE!! ENCORE!!

This book was poignant. I thought that after reading, Out of Nowhere and Middle of Somewhere where both leads had so much emotional baggage that Leo and Will's story was going to be a walk in the park. Boy was I wrong. Even though the trials and tribulations that Will and Leo go through aren't as chaotic as those of their predecessors, I probably had my heart in my throat and shed more tears than with the other books.

Leo is such a beautiful character, romantic to the core. We met him in Middle of Somewhere and I immediately fell in love with him. When he and Will first met we get the impression that Will sees him as someone young, naive and inexperienced and although he is indeed all of the aforementioned, Will has a bigger agenda for his cold behaviour towards Leo. Some time has passed and Leo is now in NYC ready to start his studies. The move seems to be done with the purpose of getting a higher education, but we all know he is ultimately there to be with Will. Oh if only things where that simple for our Leo.

Will is a complete closed book. I was desperate to figure him out. My expectations of him where not at all met and Roan had me constantly second guessing his actions.
I have to say, Roan made me hate Will up to 95% of the book, I was as confused as Leo. His mood swings were giving me a bad case of whiplash and many times I wanted to punch him and tell him to get some balls, yes yes, do not worry, I did not such thing because we obviously learn about his past and soon the layers begin to peel away leaving us with such a state of bewilderment and understanding I can only say I was gobsmacked.

Spencer was so amazingly moving, I can hear his voice for hours on end, he played every single voice with meticulous perfection, you get totally lost in the story, the characters and the drama. He takes such precision when doing the transitions and his voice always carries so much emotion you actually can't help but feel every single word spoken. The challenges of acting so many different voices, female and male, my God, what a talent! He did Roan proud and completely convey what she wanted to transmit to the readers.

The curtain has sadly closed and another magnificent book has ended. Until the next one I am again an eager spectator.

Rough Edges by Cardeno C. AUDIO BOOk REVIEW

****
STARS

"One step between Hate and Love.."
Where does Rough Edges rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It was there amongst my top audios, The story kind of had a Pride and Prejudice feel to it. It is very easy to assume something about a person we don't know, and it is not until we spend time in their company that we realise the type of person they truly are.

Who was your favorite character and why?
I really liked Brent. I liked that regardless of his background he is charming and witty and still has such a lovely humbleness to his persona, once Kyle starts scratching the surface he notices so many things about the person he calls his nemesis. Both had put such a front and both had the wrong idea about each other.

What aspect of Kevin Chandler’s performance would you have changed?
I wouldn't have changed anything, however as this is an AUDIO review my humble opinion is that I didn't feel he was the right actor for the parts. He sounds way too young and the characters are meant to be in their 30's so if I was reading I would have been fine but as I heard it it was confusing at times. Also some of the transitions weren't as smooth and it is hard to know who is speaking. A bit monotonous tone at times.
I admire voice actors and mean no disrespect but I think this was a bit of a struggle for Kevin. The performance however had no negative impact into the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
An enemies to lovers charming story.

Any additional comments?
Cardeno always produces great material and this book was not an exception. It was charming, romantic, funny and although a short story it had a solid plot.

I received a copy of this Audio in exchange of an Honest review.

The Perfect Catch by Alex Nichols

Give me a sports romance to read and I'm a happy girl!
Give me a sports romance about a sport I've never read, and I'll rapidly consume it. Water Polo is not a book theme I've ever read! I really enjoyed it though! I learned a lot about the sport and the FRENCH-m language-I felt like I was back in grade school and I had to touch up on some of my vocabulary and verb conjugations.

Sophie and Noah are not your typical match. A fledgling real estate agent trying to get out from under her dads thumb, Sophia branches out on her own to make a name for herself. Without the help of her dad or his company.

Noah is a yummy water polo player-and I must say, I think I could watch hot dudes in bathing suits all day long, rough housing around in the water! I thought he was funny and sweet and even though Sophie and Noah didn't initially click for me, I had the whole book to fall for them as a couple and fall I did! I really enjoyed how they got to know each other and the journey they took together.

Familial drama was a current theme throughout the entire read and it kept me invested and interested for the whole book. I felt for the characters and for their strife.

The book flowed well and even though I think this was the third book in a trilogy, and there were a few things I wasn't able to follow along with right away, I was eventually able to figure it out in the end and it worked well as a stand alone.

A first for me for Nichols-I always enjoy reading new books from authors I've never heard of and I'm so glad I was offered an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review.

P O S S E S S I O N 5 stars

Five stars but yet I would never read again.

You know the warning signs the ones like on this book description, ‘read with caution’. I should have taken note. I should have carried on loving the cover and not turned a page. Let me explain myself before you think, what the hell?.

I am not into dark reads, they kill me. So if you are like me and don’t read the dark genre or if you’re even thinking of going dark. DO NOT DO IT!! Take note of the warning. Jaimie Roberts has said this for a reason.

I love Jaimie’s books, her talent to express the story to it’s full potential is what has me in a state right now. Honest reviews are hard to come by these days. Let me tell you I haven’t read all of Jaimie’s books, but the ones I have read I have most definitely loved. Scars being one of them. I actually asked advice from another reader if this book was okay to read. Clearly the reader loves dark books.

How dark is this book? VERY! I’m not going to beat about the bush here. I won’t go into detail but it’s about child trafficking, child abuse mental and physical. RAPE! TORTURE! The rape scenes tipped me over the edge. She was no longer a child but it made absolutely no difference. Evelyn’s character dealt with so much and I felt everything she did. I mean clearly this is because of the sheer talent of the writer. If she intended me to feel pain, I felt it. If she wanted me to cry, I cried buckets. I felt every emotion with Evelyn. I still can’t get my head around what I have read.

Selling children as sex slaves, torturing them into submission. OH MY GOD! I feel sick.
Drake is a monster no doubt about it. In my eyes he can not and did not redeem himself. Oh! In the beginning he was most definitely Mr. Hot Pants in his suits and the way he protected Evelyn took my breath away. My heart was beating so rapidly I thought I was going to faint. Then along comes Drake to save Evelyn. The sigh that left my lips was extremely loud and long. The sickly feeling in my stomach eased, but it never disappeared.

There was some parts in this book that I had to skip. No lie I was traumatised.

If you are into dark reads especially the ones with warnings then this is most definitely the book for you. If you can’t do dark because it upsets you to much. Don’t read this book.

After everything I have said I have to rate this book five stars. Why? Well, it’s simple. If a book can do this to me. Make me cry, feel sick, worry, not wanting to continue reading but needed to make sure Evelyn was okay then by God this writer deserves those five stars.

I dare you to read it. You will definitely become possessed.

Confessions of a Carpool Captive by Dawn L. Chiletz

Confessions of a Carpool CaptiveConfessions of a Carpool Captive by Dawn L. Chiletz
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Liz Foley is in bumper to bumper highway traffic on her morning commute to work when she notices someone is pulled over for misusing the carpool lane. A man, Finnigan (Fin) Walsh, whom she recognizes as someone who just starting working for the employer has a blow up doll strapped in the passenger seat attempting to pass it off as a passenger.

Liz is a reserved, keeps-to-herself person. She prefers to be by herself and have as little contact with others as possible. She wants to no part of carpooling but Finn finally talks her into it due her car breaking down. She's uncomfortable with the situation and pulls some others into carpooling too.

The interactions these characters have is absolutely hilarious. They each have their own story. Through carpooling they become friends and look out of each other.

As Liz's relationship develops with Finn
she opens herself up with others.

This was an absolutely wonderful read full of humor.

Yes that is what I have to say after finishing this book. Laureling Paige, September, really??? You don't understand my fragile heart, can't take this, specially after that EPILOGUE. (stomps feet, sticks tongue out and crosses arms with a huff and a puff) LOL.

So this story, introduces us to, Sabrina, Weston King and Donovan Kincaid.

We have a chance to read the prologue in this book and in it we get to see a virginal Sabrina, who is the typical reserved girl, on a scholarship at Harvard, who secretly wishes to be in the popular circle in particular in the arms of Weston King. Weston is the typical wealthy college boy who has every woman happily jumping into his bed and who unfortunately has no idea who Sabrina is. She loves to watch him from a far and fantasise about what it will be to be one of his many conquests. One night however, she crosses paths with Weston's best friend Donovan, and although their exchange is quite weird and not what Sabrina was expecting, he later saves her from a sticky situation. After this the tables are turned and Sabrina can't seem to stop thinking about Donovan, but he is also her teacher. Just when thinks couldn't get awkward enough Weston suddenly notices her. Donovan on the other hand seems to have his own agenda. Events make Sabrina leave school and we now come to the next part of the story, fast forward 10 years and a chance encounter places Sabrina once again in Weston's and Donovan's world. One seems to want her, one seems to not want to want her and she is lost to both of them.
Laurelin submerges the reader into this web of love, lust, passion and possession. Every single scene is hotter than the next and you go from loving some characters, to hating some characters, but ultimately you love the whole story and you get hooked and pulled into it.

I can't wait to read the next book. I WANT IT NOW!!

Steadfast by Sarina Bowen

REVIEWED BY Jess

Steadfast (True North, #2)Steadfast by Sarina Bowen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I literally have no nails right now. I'm no nail biter but I've bitten them down as far as they can go without hurting myself. Trying to find time in my hectic schedule to read STEADFAST by Sarina Bowen has been all consuming. I couldn't get enough of her magic with words and her innate ability to tell you a story is the most all encompassing way possible.

It's no secret I adore Bowen. Probably one of my favourite contemporary romance authors of all time. She is gifted like no other and she really knows how to pull at all your heart strings. The story of young love has been done, second chances...check, but this, has never been done before. And there is no better author out there to even attempt at making the themes that are current throughout this book seem realistic in any way. But Bowen is a master at her craft-and she handled this book and it's taboo themes beautifully.

Jude loved Sophie from day 1. Her lovely sing song voice captured his heart and all he ever did was try to be the best he could be for her. However, growing up with an alcoholic for a father, and knowing your mother ran out on you can leave you with a lot of unresolved feelings of hurt and anger and not knowing exactly where to put them. Enter painkillers. Sure, you get hurt, the doctor prescribes you with a pain reliever-no problemo. Until it is. Until you can't stop. Until one turns into two and two into three and then you're trying other drugs just to find the initial buzz that first pull you ever took gave you. When that doesn't work and you need more, you steal. You lie. And you hurt. You hurt yourself and the people who care about you the most.

Sophie lived a life she thought was great. Until it wasn't. She had the love and adoration of her boyfriend and even though her father never liked him, she didn't care. Her and Jude shared so many firsts and she wanted them all. And only with him. Loyal to a fault and naive like every other teenager-she didn't realize the signs until it was too late.

Fast forward three and half years and the hurt and the anger and overwhelming love for each other hasn't disappeared. Tragedy strikes when you least expect it-but the unwavering faith Sophie had in Jude was poetic. Despite what happened, and in retrospect because of what happened, Sophie can't stay away from Jude. They're drawn together like positive and negative ions. Never being able to escape the other. Soul mates. Through and through. The power love has over these two beautiful souls is so heartbreakingly stunning I had a hard time catching my breath at times.

Jude never gave up. He fought so hard. He didn't have to though. He never thought he'd ever see Sophie again after that fateful night. Nor should he. He invariably ruined her life. Butt did he? Sophie never forgot. Ever. Every single day despite what he did, she thought of Jude. Letting go wasn't an option.

Fate had other ideas for these two. Being brought back together. Sophie's faith in Jude and his innocence. The perils that occurred in those three years could have been avoided had the truth been told and the coward of a father that was Sophie's just fessed up and accepted that not everyone, including his son, was perfect.

My sorrow for Jude was overwhelming. Thank god for Sophie and her persistence and perseverance. She went above and beyond for Jude-but I know he would do the same for her. They loved each other to the ends of the earth and Bowen expertly made that clear from page one.

"An addiction is when you can't keep away from something that is bad for you. Maybe Jude was a drug addict, but I was a Jude addict."

I loved the little extras in this book. From the internal DJ to the craving meter, it gave us further insight into the characters of Sophie and Jude. And I loved every nuance.

Right up until the last page I was hooked. I absolutely LOVED this book. Hearing about Griff and Audrey, all the Shipley gang and even little tidbits here and there of other masterfully created characters from some of her other books. I highlighted so many passages that I cannot even put them all in this review. This may be up here with one of Bowen best works, and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to read STEADFAST. I'll leave you with my favourite part:

"You make me feel so lucky," I told her. It was the truest thing I'd ever said.
"Were both lucky," she insisted. "Let's plan on staying that way. "
"It's a deal."

Luck? Or meant to be?! I'm thinking both.
